Near the ice-cream bar Anni 20 in via Mattarella,a 30-year-old Nigerian man was the victim of a racist aggression carried out by a 25-year-old Italian with previous criminal records, who is still out on bail. A quarrel broke out between the two men for futile reasons and some friends of the attacker intervened to quell the dispute and divide the contenders, but supported also their friend who hit the foreigner with a jack on his head. The police arrived on the spot and listened to numerous witnesses also acquiring images of video surveillance systems. An ambulance carried the Nigerian citizen to the hospital. The doctors treat the wounds on his head and face giving him a 2-week prognosis.

Ahmed, sixteen, assigned to a migrant reception centre for unaccompanied foreign minors, was heavily attacked and insulted. “Go back to your country”, they shout at him. A man hit him in the face with a car door, and then continued with punches and slaps. Ahmed, accompanied to the hospital, has now five days of prognosis for testicular contusion and knee injury. The carabinieri are investigating the matter. One of the leaders of the minor hosting community reported the aggression.

An Italian boy denounced a case of racism on a bus of line 33: he was pulled and hit with “punches and kicks” because he defended a young black foreign citizen. The latter had been supposedly insulted by two boys who said “you f*****g n***a, you cannot get into the bus”. The community centre Askatasuna reported the victim’s account of the episode via Facebook.

A 35-year-old Egyptian was subject to a racist attack. The man works in via Lemonia as night-guard in a flower stall, a few steps from the church of San Policarpo. “He does not speak Italian very well, but he clearly understood the insults he received: “you f*****g n***a” and other bad words” explained a friend of Egyptian origins of the victim. “He told me about a very tall guy with a knife in his hand who asked him for one euro at first, then he attacked and robbed him some flowers. When Bolas (the harmed person) was taken away from the ambulance, the attacker came back and emptied the kiosk.” The victim of the beating was hit several times in the face and stomach. He has now been discharged from the hospital but remains in shock.

In the early afternoon three men, all over 50, were sitting in a bar and saw a young Benin citizen riding an electric push-scooter. He is a workman, married and residing in Mortara. The three started shouting racist insults at the young man. They said phrasessuch as “we work every day, how can you afford such a thing?”. Then they kicked and punched him, causing him injuriesrequiring 15 days of treatment. In the end, they hurled the push-scooter on the ground, damaging it. The three men were reported to the police for personal injury, damage and “racial discrimination”.

On board of the Tram Line 2, at the Ala di Stura stop, a foreign girl approached the driver asking for some information. Because of the linguistic difficulty, it took some time to understand the requests. Meanwhile, a 64-year-oldpassenger on board began to rant about the young woman with racist sentences, accusing her of wasting his time. He pulled out the phone and started filming the woman and the driver, telling the latter that he would have loosen his job. After asking the man not to be shot, the girl put her hand on the phone and the man bite her firmly. She tried to take her hand back but his grip was so firm that he lost a tooth. The young girl was accompanied to the hospital, then discharged with a prognosis of 5 days. Concerning the man, a complaint was filed for interruption of public service.

Last night, around 20.30 near Piazza Leone, a dozen boys, all minors, all of a sudden started insulting a 16 year old young man of Dominican descent with racist phrases, then threaten and finally attacked him. At first he was completely surrounded by the group, then one of the youngest attackers unleashed his studded belt and brandished it fiercely threatening the young foreigner to hit him in the face. At the end the blade of a knife appeared on the scene and the victim was wound on his elbow. Everything happened in the public eye of dozens of witnesses, none of whom intervened to defend the victim. The young man was looked after at the hospital, luckily the wounds were not serious.

A woman took the subway to go to work. After a few stops, she heard someone screaming from a group of Spanish tourists. Loads of people crowded around a young Roma girl saying racist phrases like “beat her! Push her under the train! This f*****g gypsy!” Meanwhile, the metro stopped, the doors opened and the girl, about 12/15 years, run away terrified. The group of Spanish tourists followed her but then the militaries intervened. A witness shouted: “Shame on you! You all would push a girl under a train for a wallet! Where is humanity? You all suck!”. A man started insulting her with racist and sexist phrases, nobody said something in her defence.

A Nigerian prostitute got into a car after being invited by two young women who demanded her a sexual performance. As soon as she closed the doora jet of pepper-stinging spray reached her face. She was thenthrown out of the car. Some colleagues rescued her and accompanied her to the pharmacy. The same fate has befallen another twenty year old Nigerian woman, who was also robbed. The two men pepper sprayed her face, her neck and arms, then took away her purse that contained some cash and the phone. Then they fled away. The victim went to the hospital because of the severe burns. The investigators do not exclude that the motive of the robberies and the violent aggressions is racism.

In the evening, Jallow Salif, a 23-years-old Gambian asylum seeker, guest of a migrants reception centre, was attacked and beaten in the public villa garden. A young man grabbed him by his throat and then hurled him on the ground, while two others began to kick and punch him. The victim, wounded and bleeding, crosses the city center in the indifference of passers-by and without receiving any help. Arrived alone at the Commissariat, he is then accompanied in the Emergency Room, where the doctors find the loss of some teeth, swelling of the face and bruises.

Shortly after midnight, in Via Benfratelli, Ballarò district, three foreigners were brutally assaulted by some Italian men: a 32-years-old Nigerian man and two Ivory Coast citizens aged 17 and 48. The first, N.K., was taken to the Polyclinic Hospital having wounds in the face and upper limbs. The 17-year-old Ivorian young man was taken in charge by the NGO “Civico” staff. He had wounds on his face, on the left side and a supposed shoulder fracture. The 48-year-old, E.K.B. was accompanied to the Polyclinic Hospital. Doctors found wounds on his face and head. The carabinieri arrived at the spot and later began the investigation. There are no surveillance cameras in the fight zone but several witnesses claimed to have heard racist insults.

A Polish bartender was insulted with racist sentences and later beaten to a pulp after banning a customer from smoking in the room. The harmed woman had to go through several days of hospitalization. The investigations carried out by the Carabinieri ended in December 2018 and lead to three house arrest for two men and a woman. All of them are from Teano and they will have to respond to the accusation of aggravated injuries by racist hatred. The beating was recorded by a surveillance camera of the bar. According to the investigators the racist matrix of the assault was confirmed by the victim and by several people who witnessed the scene.

In the afternoon, three boys approached and attacked a sixteen-year-old Moroccan with baseball batsand then fled away. The minor was hospitalized urgently in the Pineta Grande clinic of Castel Volturno. He reported bruises in various parts of the body.

Around 11, a young foreign citizen was insulted with racist phrases, attacked and then beaten up by a group of 5-6 peoplein Via Nicolò Tommaseo, near the tobacco shop. He was beaten just on the spot where he usually stops to beg for money or sell some lighter on the side walk. The attack occurred in front of numerous witnesses, some of whom decided to intervened attempting to block the aggression. The victim was hit in the face by punches and kicks with shocking violence and he was wound on his head.

Last night,two young men driving a car fired some shots with a blank gun in Corso Martiri, wounding a 27-years-old Pakistani citizen who was walking on the side walk with some friends. The victim reported a wounded elbow with a 14-day prognosis. According to the reconstruction of the story, the Carabinieri traced back the alleged authors of the aggression thanks to a security camera and some testimonies: the offenders are likely to be investigated with the aggravating circumstance of “racial hatred”.

A 25-year-old man looking completely drunk got into a down town bar asking for water. When a black bartender offered it to him, the client verbally assaults him, saying “you all steal our jobs”. Then he threatened both bartenders with a knife. When the police arrived on the spot, the young man had already fled but he later showed up in the police headquarters spontaneously. He will need to face the charges of threat, slander aggravated by “racial reasons”, and lack of knife license.

Three university students were stopped by some Digos investigators because they supposedly attacked various migrants with no apparent reason, in different regions of Italy. According to the investigations, in eight months they lead at least seven racist attacks. In their house, the police found canes, baseball bats, bats, knives and propaganda material on the superiority of the “race”. The charges against them are: propaganda and incitement to commit crimes for reasons of “racial, ethnic and religious discrimination”, threats, stalking, personal injury and damage.

At about 7 pm, in a parking lot near Viale delle Provincie, a 40-year-old North African woman was insulted with racist phrases (“Go back home!”), assaulted and beaten up by a 50-year-old Italian man. The woman was holding a parking spot along the avenue for her husband, who was coming over by car. The 50 year old saw the free spot and told her to leave. The woman refused and he got out of the car beginning to shout at her. When the woman’s brother arrived, the discussion degenerated, and she ended up lying on the ground because of a slap. No one intervened to help the woman. A passer by witnessed the scene and denounced the case on Facebook.
